What are the ADU Rules in Los Gatos?

In Los Gatos, an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) is defined as a detached or attached residential dwelling that shares the same parcel as an existing or proposed primary residence. To qualify as an ADU, the unit must include essential living spaces, such as areas for sleeping, a full kitchen, and a bathroom. ADUs also encompass efficiency units and manufactured homes.
Another option is the Junior Accessory Dwelling Unit (JADU), which is a smaller unit of no more than 500 square feet. A JADU must be fully contained within the existing or proposed single-family residence, which can include space in an attached garage.
Both ADUs and JADUs must meet the development standards and regulations outlined in Division 7 of Chapter 29 of the Town Code.
